Orlando police chief Orlando Rolón signs off on his last day of service

ORLANDO, Fla. — Orlando police chief Orlando Rolón has signed off on his last day of service to the City of Orlando.

In a video from OPD, Rolón gave his last radio transmission and said it has been an honor to serve the community.

Rolón announced he would retire earlier this summer after 30 years of service with the department.

He became chief in October 2018 and was the first Hispanic person to serve in the role in 143 years, which Rolón said was a special moment for him.

The chief and his family moved to Central Florida from Puerto Rico in 1977 and he joined the Orlando Police Department in November 1992.

Under Rolón’s leadership, the police department navigated the COVID-19 pandemic, introduced new technology and created the first Real Time Crime Center.
