Original Story:

Crews in Osceola County plan to continue their search for a person who may be missing in a pond near Kissimmee.

Deputies responded to the pond on Brightwater Court around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, after the sheriff’s office received a call about a possible drowning in progress.

Wednesday morning, Channel 9 returned to that location and saw deputies back at the scene, waiting for the sun to rise so the search could resume.

According to Sheriff Marcos Lopez, two different witnesses called saying they saw someone go into the water and never come out.

As deputies were setting up a perimeter around the area, Lopez says they found a pair of sandals, prompting Osceola County Fire Rescue to respond to the scene with their scuba team.

Due to a lack of clarity and the depth of the water, Osceola County’s scuba team was only able to attempt a surface rescue.

They eventually requested assistance from the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office dive team, which is capable of performing dives at night.

Lopez said, through sonar, they were able to identify an area of interest for the dive team to focus on.
