Crews to open new ‘diverging diamond’ interchange at I-4 exit near ChampionsGate

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — While the “I-4 Ultimate” project may be complete, crews are still working on the “I-4 Beyond the Ultimate” project.

They’re about to transform a section of the interstate in Osceola County.

Some of the work for the project is being done at a section of Interstate 4 and County Road 532, near ChampionsGate.

That’s where the Florida Department of Transportation is getting ready to open up a so-called “diverging diamond.”

The new traffic pattern shifts traffic to the left side of the road as drivers cross over I-4, and then back to the right-hand side.

“Providing a new design that can move a lot more traffic through will definitely help drivers as they commute through this area,” said David Parks with I-4 Ultimate and Beyond.

Engineers said the new traffic pattern will also help to reduce the number of crashes.
