PALM BAY, Fla. — Palm Bay police are warning local businesses about a scam using Florida Power and Light as a way to get personal banking and other information.
Police said the scammers call from outside the U.S. using the Internet and give the business' name and their FPL account number.
Then they say the power bill is past due and they'll shut the power off if it's not paid.
Officials said the crooks also give the victims a bogus bank routing number and ask for personal information.
