Pedestrian dies after being struck by train in Vero Beach, deputies say

VERO BEACH, Fla. — Law enforcement in Indian River County are investigating after a person died after being hit by a train.

The incident happened around 6:09 a.m. Friday at a railroad crossing at 12th Street in Vero Beach.

The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office received a report from an Florida East Coast railway worker that a train hit a pedestrian.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene and the train is stopped at the intersections of 12th Street and 8th Street.

Deputies are investigating the deadly crash and are asking people to avoid the area.

A sheriff’s office spokesperson released a statement saying, “as a reminder, please, obey the safety equipment at railroad grade crossings and never walk on the railroad tracks.”
