ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. — A Central Florida fundraiser supporting cancer patients and other community programs is returning for its eighth year.
Petals of Hope Foundation will host its annual Taste the Hope event Sunday, Oct. 4, at the Crystal Ballroom in Altamonte Springs.
This year’s theme, “Spectrum of Hope: Every Color, Every Cure,” is intended to recognize people affected by many different forms of cancer rather than focusing on a single diagnosis.
About 175 people are expected to attend the event, which will feature food sampling, live entertainment, educational resources, raffles, a silent auction and personal stories.
Helping patients get to medical care
One of the programs supported by Petals of Hope is its Transport-to-Care Fund, created with AdventHealth in 2015.
The program helps Greater Orlando patients who need transportation to medical appointments and have limited resources or family support.
Petals of Hope says it has contributed approximately $70,000 toward the transportation program since it began.
Supporting Central Florida communities
Petals of Hope Foundation was established in 2012 and serves as the charitable arm of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated – Delta Omicron Omega Chapter.
The organization says more than 240 members contribute more than 5,000 hours of community service each year.
Its work also includes education, food insecurity programs, school-supply donations, health awareness and scholarships. The foundation says it has awarded more than $150,000 in scholarships to help students with post-secondary education costs.
The organization does not receive government funding and relies on donations and volunteer service.

Taste the Hope begins at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4, at the Crystal Ballroom, 1012 State Road 436 in Altamonte Springs.
