14-year-old dies after crashing his grandmother’s SUV, almost splitting the vehicle in half

OCALA, Fla. — Ocala police are investigating a fatal car crash that killed a 14-year-old boy Monday evening.

Police said the crash happened along Northwest 42nd Street just after 6 p.m.

According to a police report, 14-year-old Javariy Wilson was driving his grandmother’s SUV west on Northwest 42nd Street, when he crossed into the eastbound lane before crossing back westbound.

Investigators say the SUV then became airborne and struck a pole, breaking the pole in half.

Update - Roadway is now open to through traffic.

Witnesses reported seeing the car driving at a high rate of speed just before the crash.

According to Marion County schools, grief councilors would be on hand at Silver River Mentoring And Instruction where Wilson was a student.

Police say Wilson was the only person in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

The crash is still under investigation.
