Police: Pregnant nurse loses unborn baby after being attacked by patient

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — A Seminole County man was arrested after police say he attacked a nurse and killed her unborn child.

According to a police report the nurse, who was 32 weeks pregnant, was assisting with a patient when another patient, Joseph Wuerz, attacked her.

Police say Wuerz entered the room and shoved the nurse into a wall and tried to kick her before being restrained by hospital personnel.

Following the attack the woman was examined by doctors at Winnie Palmer Hospital and told that her baby had died.

After being released from South Seminole Hospital, Wuerz was booked into the Seminole County jail and charged with aggravated battery of a pregnant woman, aggravated battery of a medical worker and manslaughter in the killing of an unborn child.
