Polk County soldier killed in Fort Hood shooting to be laid to rest

POLK COUNTY, Fla. — The Polk County soldier who was killed in the Fort Hood shooting spree will be laid to rest on Saturday.

Sgt. 1st Class Daniel Ferguson's flag-draped casket arrived in Tampa Friday.

There will be a private funeral Saturday morning in Lakeland.

The Patriot Guard Riders motorcycle organization riders will then escort Ferguson to the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.

Ferguson was one of three people killed last week when investigators said Spc. Ivan Lopez opened fire at the base.

Staff Sgt. Carlos Lazaney-Rodriguez was also killed and will be laid to rest on Monday at the Florida National Cemetery.
