LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after possible skeletal remains were discovered Friday in a wooded area near Camp McQuarrie in Astor.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies received a report around 12:43 p.m. regarding the remains.
Detectives with the agency’s Criminal Investigations Bureau and Crime Scene Investigations Unit responded to the scene and have launched an investigation.
Authorities said they cannot yet confirm whether the remains are human.
The remains will be examined by the Medical Examiner, and additional information is expected once that examination is completed.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. Channel 9 has dispatched a crew to gather more information.
