Prescribed burns envelope Orlando in thick smoke

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Prescribed burns well to the west of Orlando created  a smoky haze across much of the central Florida area Tuesday afternoon.

Fire officials said smoke from a 900-acre burn in the Richloam Wildlife Area in Sumter County, as well as a 1,000 acre burn in the Citrus Wildlife Management Area are being blown by breezes across several counties.

Downtown Orlando was enveloped in a thick haze in the afternoon and ash fell across the city.

By 4:30 p.m. the smoke began to clear.
