President Joe Biden delays Florida trip, approves emergency declaration for state

ORLANDO, Fla. — As Tropical Storm Ian continues to strengthen, President Joe Biden approved an emergency declaration for Florida, the White House said in a release.

The move will authorize the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency to coordinate disaster relief efforts.

The agencies will also be able to provide assistance to residents and properties impacted by Ian.

The president was also scheduled to appear at an event in Florida on Tuesday but has postponed his planned trip because of the storm.
