Record-setting 140-pound, 17-foot python captured in South Florida

MIAMI — Researchers captured a record-setting 140-pound, 17-foot female python in Big Cypress National Preserve, officials with the park said Friday.

Researchers are tracking male pythons with radio transmitters to find breeding females. They then capture and remove the females.

This nest had 73 developing eggs.

The teams have removed several breeding females over the last few months from the national preserve using this method.
