See where new DeSantis tourism board may build Disney-area housing

Affordable housing has become hot topic in metro Orlando — most recently with the new Central Florida Tourism Oversight District’s board members saying they may want to build that type of project near Walt Disney World in the future.

The district’s board members — who were appointed by Gov. Ron DeSantis to replace the Reedy Creek Improvement District special government earlier this year as part of a year-long feud between the governor and Disney — expressed interest in developing district-owned land around Walt Disney World.

The topic came up during the board’s April 19 meeting, when its members also discussed a controversial land development agreement entered into by Disney and the former district leadership.
