Boil water advisory issued for nearly 300 homes in Seminole County

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — A boil water advisory was issued for 294 homes in Seminole County on Saturday due to a water line break.

The advisory impacts the Black Hammock Water Service Area, officials said.

Customers are requested to boil water before using for drinking water, pet drinking water and brushing teeth.

A rolling boil of one minute is sufficient, but the water needs to be allowed to cool before use.

As an alternative, bottled water may be used. Ice made during this period should be thrown out.

Doing laundry and washing dishes is generally safe as dishwashers final rinse cycles are above 150 degrees Fahrenheit.

The boil water notice will remain in effect until the bacteriological survey shows that the water is safe to use.

Officials said the leak is being fixed.

Once the leak is fixed, the distribution system will be flushed, and bacteriological samples will be taken as a precautionary measure.

Testing will occur over the weekend.

Large street signs were placed at specific intersections within the service area.
