‘God turned them into a friend’: Longwood police help man in need clean up lawn

LONGWOOD, Fla. — Michael Guidry’s front yard fell into disrepair with high grass and garbage on his lawn. A failed back surgery last year left him without the ability to bend.

“My yard was horrible and I hadn’t taken care of it and my neighbors were complaining, rightfully so,” Guidry said.

Code enforcement issued Guidry a citation, but noticed he was in distress and asked Longwood police to do a wellbeing check.

That’s when officers picked up some trash in Guidry’s yard. One of the officers made a phone call to her uncle who owns a landscaping and lawn service. The landscaper mowed and edged the lawn for free.

Not only did those Longwood police officers get help for Guidry to clean up his yard, they also raised money to pay for his electric bill.

Guidry said he wasn’t the biggest fan of Longwood police after having a few negative encounters with them in the past.

“So I had the attitude 48 hours ago of the police are my enemy, and God turned them into a friend,” Guidry said.
