SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — On Tuesday, Seminole County Fire Rescue’s new recruit class got firsthand experience battling a live fire, like the devastating one in the Bronx.
Recruits trained on a two-story burn simulator, a building that is designed to simulate the low visibility and harsh temperatures that firefighters will face in real fires.

This building can also help with search and rescue training.
The temperatures at the floor can get up to 500 degrees and the ceiling can top off at around 1200 degrees.
“New firefighters are getting to see how an actual fire behaves. As a veteran firefighter, we’ve seen some fire behavior in real buildings, and we’ve worked through those problems. As a veteran firefighter, we get to come in here and dust off our cobwebs, get our techniques perfected and be able to be in way more positions, locating victims and extinguishing fires,” said Lt. Tod Zellers from SCFR.
