BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has deployed dozens of officers to Brevard and St. Lucie counties to assist residents affected by severe flooding along Florida’s east coast.
A stalled weather front brought record rainfall to the region, leaving many residents unable to safely leave their homes or navigate flooded roadways. Parts of Brevard County recorded nearly 23 inches of rain. Response operations in the affected areas began on Monday, Nov. 2.
In Brevard County, the FWC deployed 63 officers to reinforce local teams already operating there. Response teams deployed specialized equipment, including nine side-by-sides, seven airboats, and two shallow-water vessels. On Tuesday, Nov. 3, officers conducted more than 56 rescues and completed more than 38 calls for service.
In St. Lucie County, the agency deployed 30 officers equipped with reconnaissance drones, swamp buggies, airboats and shallow-water vessels. Officers in St. Lucie County have evacuated more than 190 residents and handled more than 200 calls for service.
FWC officers will continue to use their training and specialized equipment to assist residents, local emergency management officials, and law enforcement partners throughout the weather event.
