‘She will be truly missed’: Local police officer dies in motorcycle crash

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — A local police officer was killed in a motorcycle crash early Monday, the Indian Harbour Beach Police Department said.

Troopers said the crash happened just before 3 a.m. near Pineda Causeway and Patrick Drive.

Officer Madison Merritt, 24, was traveling westbound on the Pineda Causeway when she struck the concrete barrier wall and was ejected from her motorcycle, troopers said.

She died at the scene.

“Madison was a beloved member of the Indian Harbour Beach Police Department, and the City of the Indian Harbour Beach Community. She truly loved being a Police Officer for the City, and loved helping our citizens. She always had a smile on her face and she will be truly missed,” the police department said in a Facebook post.

The Indian Harbour Beach Police Department said it would post funeral arrangements once they have been made.
