Storm debris drop-off site opens in New Smyrna Beach

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. — Starting Thursday, more people in New Smyrna Beach can get rid of debris left behind by Hurricane Ian.

The city is opening a drop-off site at 495 Industrial Park Avenue on Oct. 20.

It will operate daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., including on weekends.

The city has planned the location specifically for New Smyrna Beach residents and said it will not accept commercial contractors.

People using the site will need to show proof that they live within city limits.

Residents can drop off separated yard and construction debris but should not dispose of electronics, tires, or large appliances.

The city said household hazardous waste may be dropped off on Saturday, Oct. 22, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at nearby 124 Industrial Park Avenue.

New Smyrna Beach officials want residents to know that crews are still working to clear curbside debris on a daily basis and said, to date, contractors have removed more than 46,000 cubic yards of street debris.
