Sumter County schools weigh in-person, online teaching for upcoming school year

SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. — As several school districts in Central Florida work out their back-to-school plans, the Sumter County School District is offering three options for students and parents.

The first option is to get students back in traditional classrooms.

School officials said they also plan to require masks on buses, and will encourage them to be worn inside the schools. They will also plan to have the school practice social distancing.

Frequent hand-washing and hygiene practices will also be implemented, school officials said, and hand sanitizer will be available throughout campus.

Cleaning protocols will be increased, and the school district plans to limit group gatherings.

Option two includes a distance-learning model and E-learning model that will be geared toward regular school instruction. It will utilize a remote teacher and remote classmates, and will be much more of a direct-instruction model, officials said.

Option three will use a computer-driven teleconference with a teaching program more designed for independent learners.
