Two women charged after shooting on County Road 422 in Lake Panasoffkee

An argument between two couples escalated into a physical fight before a shot was fired by a bystander

SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. — Two women face criminal charges after a shooting on Thursday along County Road 422 in Lake Panasoffkee, according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, a woman and her boyfriend were driving along County Road 422 when they encountered another woman and her husband walking along the roadway. The driver stopped and got out of the vehicle, and an argument escalated into a physical fight involving all four people.

After the fight was broken up, the driver and her boyfriend returned to their vehicle and began leaving the area. Investigators said one of the women then fired a single round from a .45-caliber handgun at the passenger side of the vehicle.

The bullet struck the passenger-side door, damaging it and sending plastic fragments into the vehicle’s interior.

The passenger suffered minor injuries, according to deputies.
