ORLANDO, Fla. — If an effort to reduce the threat of dangerous wildfires, some Central Florida agencies announced plans to conduct controlled burns on Wednesday.

In Brevard County, emergency management officials said they’re aiming to burn away more than 330 acres near the Indian River County line.
The prescribed burn will focus on the T.M. Goodwin Waterfowl Management area.

In Marion County, Florida Forest Service officials said there are two prescribed burns planned.
In the Indian Lake State Forest, 176 acres of brush are set to be cleared.
Cross Florida Greenway will burn more than 150 acres between State Road 484 and SW 49th Avenue.

Experts said prescribed fires are beneficial for a number of reasons, including reducing the risk of fast-moving wildfires that can cause dangers to people and property.
