ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The Orange County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help locating three people accused of traveling across the country and breaking into cemetery niches to steal valuables placed with cremated remains.
Investigators say Drake Lee Milam, 33; his girlfriend, Porsche Bancroft, 32; and Bancroft’s mother, Angela Garrett, 52, are wanted on warrants that would allow them to be extradited to Florida to face charges in connection with the case.
According to the sheriff’s office, the trio has targeted cemeteries in at least nine states. Investigators say the suspects break into niches containing cremated remains and steal family heirlooms that were placed inside.
The sheriff’s office said there are 20 known cases in Florida, but detectives believe there could be additional victims.
The alleged thefts can involve deeply personal items, including jewelry that families placed with their loved ones after their deaths.
The Florida Attorney General’s Office of Statewide Prosecution is handling the case as investigators work to hold the suspects accountable.
Authorities say all three suspects are believed to live in Indianapolis.
The sheriff’s office is urging families to check their loved ones’ resting places to make sure valuables and heirlooms remain secure.
Central Florida Crimeline is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest.
Anyone with information about the suspects’ whereabouts is asked to contact Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS (8477).
Authorities are also asking the public to share information about the case to help investigators locate the three suspects.
