Tornado warning issued for south-central Brevard County

Residents urged to take shelter as severe storms move through the area

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Warning for south-central Brevard County until 6:15 p.m.

Forecasters say a storm capable of producing a tornado was located near Suntree and Melbourne and was moving southeast. Residents in the warning area are urged to take shelter immediately in an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is also in effect until 6:15 p.m. for parts of central Brevard County.

The storm is capable of producing wind gusts up to 60 mph and is expected to impact communities including Melbourne, Rockledge, Cocoa, Cocoa Beach, and Satellite Beach.

Residents are encouraged to monitor weather conditions and be prepared to seek shelter as storms move through the area.
