ORLANDO, Fla. — Testimony continues Wednesday in the trial of a man accused of killing a young mother and leaving her 1-year-old child inside a hot car, where the child later died.
20-year-old Massania Malcolm was found shot to death inside a car in 2021.
On Tuesday, jurors heard emotional testimony from Malcolm’s boyfriend, Jordane Reid, who prosecutors say was also shot during the attack.
Reid told the court he was inside the vehicle when prosecutors allege Doujon Griffiths opened fire.
“I was in panic. I was getting shot at the same time. I was just trying to escape, that’s it,” Reid testified.
Reid described how he says Griffiths pointed a firearm at him and pulled the trigger.
“He literally put the firearm right here and squeezed it,” Reid said, demonstrating for the jury. “I turned around like this, and that’s when he stopped. I wasn’t trying to wrestle it, but I was trying to feel it and stop him.”
Prosecutors allege Griffiths shot Reid and Malcolm before fleeing in the vehicle with Malcolm and her baby.
Orange County deputies later found the abandoned car on Rio Grande Avenue. The child was found dead inside, near her mother.
Investigators searched for Griffiths for about two years. He was eventually taken into custody in New Jersey following a traffic stop.
Griffiths, who prosecutors say was a childhood friend of Reid’s, faces two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder.
