FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. — Two people are in jail after an alleged carjacking at knifepoint in Ormond Beach led to a pursuit that ended in Flagler County.
Ormond Beach police said the incident started around 11:19 a.m. Saturday, when a 31-year-old Lee Miller allegedly stole a vehicle at a gas station and later returned, police said he pulled a knife on the vehicle’s owner.
Investigators believe Miller later picked up 34-year-old Daniella Alvarez and two children at a motel near the gas station.
When the vehicle’s owner approached again, police said Alvarez struck him before the vehicle drove away.
A BOLO was issued for the vehicle, and Flagler County deputies later deployed stop sticks to stop it. Deputies said Miller abandoned the vehicle at a Wendy’s off Old Kings Road and ran.
According to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, deputies used a drone team, a helicopter, and a K-9 unit to locate Miller.
Deputies found Alvarez inside the vehicle. Authorities said she initially claimed she had been kidnapped.
“The female tried to say that she’s a kidnapped victim,” Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly said. “But when the Ormond Beach Police Department got to the scene along with their victim and witness, it was very obvious that she lied, that she was actually an active participant in the carjacking.”
Both Miller and Alvarez were taken into custody.
Miller has an extensive criminal history, including drug charges from last month in Ohio and possession of a stolen vehicle charges from 2023 in North Carolina.
Miller is facing one charge of fleeing and eluding and two counts of child neglect. Alvarez is facing one charge of filing a false police report and two counts of child neglect.
Both are expected to face additional charges from Ormond Beach police.
