SANFORD, Fla. — Two men are accused of stealing approximately a dozen aluminum billets worth $5,000 to $10,000 from a Sanford manufacturing plant, according to an arrest report.
Dequane Wilson, 21, and Tyreek Wilson, 28, were arrested Tuesday on burglary and grand theft charges stemming from the Aug. 22 theft at Flextrude Aluminum Shapes on West Fifth Street.
A manager told Sanford police that surveillance cameras captured a four-door sedan entering the rear of the property around 3:26 a.m. Two people then loaded aluminum billets into the vehicle before leaving about 20 minutes later, according to the report.
An investigator reviewed the footage and described the vehicle as a silver sedan, possibly a Nissan Altima. The footage was too grainy to provide descriptions of the people involved.
The investigation developed a new lead in September, when police learned that both men had been arrested in connection with a separate burglary at the same business. According to the report, they were using a silver Nissan Altima that matched the description of the car in the August surveillance footage.
Investigators also reviewed a report involving an attempted aluminum sale at Central Florida Recycling Center in DeLand on Sept. 6.
A recycling center manager told authorities that Tyreek Wilson brought in aluminum billets matching the description of material stolen in Sanford. The manager reported that the metal arrived in a silver Nissan Altima with another man inside, according to the arrest report.
The manager contacted the Volusia Sheriff’s Office, but Tyreek Wilson left before deputies arrived, the report states.
Sanford investigators interviewed both men in late September. Their statements are largely redacted from the publicly released report.
Dequane Wilson allowed investigators to search his vehicle, but they did not find aluminum billets, according to police.
Officers arrested both men Oct. 13 at the Seminole Gardens apartments and took them to the Seminole County Jail.
