Postponed: Volusia County sheriff delays update on rise of hate group activity

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — The Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood delayed his plans to talk about the rise in hate group activity in the community.

Anti-Semitic fliers and banners appeared last month in Daytona Beach and Ormond Beach.

Chitwood said some of the people responsible aren’t backing down.

He was planning to speak about the disturbing activity during a news conference at 1 p.m. Friday. But the sheriff’s office said there is active law enforcement component to the news conference that involves an agency outside of the county’s jurisdiction that hasn’t been resolved yet.
