VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — Two people are dead following an officer-involved shooting Thursday afternoon in Ormond Beach, according to police.
Officers said there was a disturbance in a grassy lot on North Beach Street involving a man and a woman who were armed.
A witness told police that a woman shot a man and still had a firearm.
Officers said they gave commands to the woman but she turned the gun toward the officers and fired in their direction.
Five officers opened fire, police said, killing the man and woman.
The five officers who opened fire were placed on administrative leave, which is standard practice while the Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigates any officer-involved shooting, officials said.
The victim was identified as David Owsianiak, 59, and the suspect was identified as Deanne Owsianiak, 55, police said.
Investigators said the victim and suspect were married.
No officers were injured.
Police said the shooting was an isolated incident and there is no threat to the community.
The investigation is ongoing.
