72-year-old man killed after exiting his vehicle on I-4, troopers say

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal overnight crash in Volusia County.

The crash happened around 2 a.m. on Interstate 4 near State Road 44.

Troopers said a Ford Explorer traveling eastbound on I-4 blew out its front left tire, causing the truck to veer to the left hitting the guardrail and becoming disabled partially still in the roadway.

A Chevrolet Camaro also traveling eastbound struck the back of the Explorer.

According to a news release, the driver of the Explorer exited the truck after being struck by the Camaro.

Trooper said a Lexus traveling in the same direction then hit the driver.

The 72-year-old Orlando man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other drivers stayed at the scene and were not transported to the hospital.
