DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Update:
According to Daytona Beach police, the motorcycle has been removed. The inspection of the bridge is complete and the bridge is up and running at this time.
The Daytona Beach Police Department posted on their Twitter account that an accident on the Main Street Bridge has forced them to close the bridge for an unknown amount of time.
According to police, the accident happened around 10 a.m. when a motorcyclist ran through one of the traffic arms as it was lowering for the bridge to rise.
The motorcyclist was not injured but the motorcycle was dangling from the drawbridge opening when officers arrived.
The accident also damaged one of the traffic arms on the bridge and a bridge inspection will have to be completed before they can reopen.
This is a busy week in Daytona Beach as Bike Week continues and Florida schools begin Spring Break.
Travelers looking for alternate routes to and from beachside, should use International Speedway Blvd or Seabreeze Blvd. and Oak Ridge Blvd. to make their way across.
