DeLand man accused of stabbing wife at motel

DELAND, Fla. — A man was charged with stabbing his wife at a motel in DeLand, according to Volusia County deputies.

Deputies said they responded to the Budget Inn at 2801 E. New York Avenue around 4:10 p.m. Sunday and found a 48-year-old woman with several wounds consistent with being stabbed or cut.

The woman was airlifted to a hospital in Daytona Beach, where she is in critical but stable condition.

Her husband, Alexander Fuentes, 58, told detectives he stabbed the woman in self-defense after she hit him. Deputies said he didn’t have any visible injuries consistent with being struck.

Fuentes was arrested on a charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and remained in custody without bond Monday morning at the Volusia County Branch Jail.
