Driver, paralyzed in crash that killed 2 people, charged with vehicular homicide

DELTONA, Fla. — A Deltona man is under arrest, charged with two deaths in a June 2021 crash, deputies said.

Eleven months after a crash that killed two elderly men, the other driver, Robert Shavers, was arrested and charged with two counts of vehicular homicide in their deaths.

The 46-year-old, who remains paralyzed from his injuries, was transported to the Volusia County Branch Jail and released.

He is scheduled for a first court appearance in June.

The crash happened on June 25, 2021, at 2:31 p.m. at the intersection of East Normandy Boulevard and Clay Court.

Deputies said Shavers lost control of his Dodge Ram truck, causing it to skid, spin and veer into a Volkswagen Passat traveling southwest on East Normandy Boulevard.

The driver of the Volkswagen, Donald Glenn Fisher, 84, was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, Thomas Allen Snip, 79, died of his injuries the next day.

Shavers is also being charged with operating an unregistered motor vehicle, failure to use the proper lane, improper change of lane, improper change of lanes in an intersection and driving too fast for conditions.
