Saturday morning fire destroys Volusia County community center, officials say

EDGEWATER, Fla. — An investigation is underway after a fire ripped through a building in the Edgewater Landing subdivision early Saturday morning.

According to city officials, the Edgewater Fire Department responded to 601 Homeport Terrace for a structure fire at 1:14 a.m.

The fire was called under control by firefighters at 1:28 a.m., officials said.

The building was part of the community center in the subdivision.

It was unoccupied at the time of the fire and there were no reported injuries, according to officials.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Edgewater Fire Rescue Fire Marshal.

According to city officials, preliminary damage is estimated at approximately $500,000.
