Special passes return to Daytona Beach for busy Daytona Truck Meet weekend

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — Bridges shut down, people partying in the streets, fights -- those were some of the problems Daytona Beach dealt with Memorial Day weekend with Orlando invades Daytona.

Now, the city is preparing for another big weekend with more than 35,000 truckers coming to Daytona Beach for the annual Daytona Truck Meet.

People who live or work on the beach side can pick up a P Pass at the Daytona Beach Police Station, which will allow you to cross the Main Street bridge.

The eastbound lane on the Main Street bridge is reserved for beachside residents and workers with the pass.

They can use it to avoid traffic on the other bridges.

Some beach business owners worry people may avoid the area and their stores altogether.

There are no plans to close any of the bridges.

Passes can be picked up at the police stations on Valor or Harvey or at The Shores.
