The mayor’s seat had been vacant since Charles Lacey resigned in March.

Lacey, who had been Winter Springs mayor since 2010, sent a letter to the city clerk on March 12 stating that he would be resigning as mayor.

At the time, Lacey cited a change in attitude within the city commission as the reason for his departure.

“It’s been building, the commission has changed considerably. In my first eight years in office I took great pride in representing the city everywhere I went. I felt like the city was admired, people were envious of the way we ran things,” he said.

Once sworn in McCann will serve out the rest of Lacey’s term, which ends Nov. 8, 2022.
