Man Accused Of Making Crank 911 Calls, Threatening Cops

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Volusia County man accused of crank calling 911 and threatening law enforcement was just arrested for doing the same thing in Orlando.

WFTV learned about the incriminating evidence police officers discovered when they found John Calvery, downtown.

Calvery seemed subdued as he stood in front of a judge on Wednesday afternoon. He was arrested for the second time for misusing the 911 system. He made statements to the Orlando Police Department and the Orange County Sheriff's Office. They were similar to the ones he made to Port Orange police last month.

"911, where's your emergency?" an operator asked.

"Ugh, there is none," he said. "You guys are a bunch of f****** crooks and I'm gonna take care of it."

Steve Mills served him alcohol on Tuesday night at a downtown Orlando bar. He said Calvery seemed off, but he had no idea he was making threats.

"He told me he was fighting the law. He spent a million dollars. He got on his cell phone and was calling someone," Mills said.

According to reports, Calvery was sitting outside of a downtown bar with a bourbon and Coke. When police got to the bar, they noticed he had two cell phones on the table.

Police said the 57-year-old man made at least seven calls that night.

Port Orange police said Calvery called 911 and the department's non-emergency number at least 87 times.

Officers said Calvery's crank calls took them from more important calls. They charged him with a third- degree felony.

"Hey John?" asked the dispatcher.

"What?" he replied.

"Have you been drinking tonight?" the dispatcher asked.

"Oh, hell no," he said.

Calvery is being held on a $2,500 bond. A judge also ordered him to stay away from people he may have harassed.
