Marion County, Forest Service firefighters contain 100-acre wildfire in Florida Highlands

MARION COUNTY, Fla. — Firefighters with the Florida Forest Service and Marion County Fire-Rescue contained a 100-acre wildfire in the Florida Highlands near Dunnellon.

According to the most recent update from the Forest Service, the fire is about 100 percent contained and firefighters are still on site monitoring hot spots.

Three homes have been damaged by the fire, according to the Forest Service. About 25 homes have been evacuated.

According to Marino County Fire-Rescue, the main area being affected is near Southwest 155th Street and Southwest 80th Avenue.

Firefighters say a trailer full of ammunition may be the cause of the fire.

No injuries were reported and all of the evacuees have been allowed to return to their homes.
