The drop landed the state average at $4.54 per gallon as the Independence Day weekend came to a close.

Ten cents might not seem like much, but it starts adding up quickly when it’s time to fill up your gas tank.

So any news of savings at the pump is a welcome thing these days, considering the sobering reality that drivers paid $1.54 more per gallon than they did a year ago.

Looking at the bigger picture of recent gas price trends shows some signs of promise.

In the last three weeks, AAA reported a 35-cent decline in the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Florida.

It’s mainly thanks to a drop in global oil prices.

“Gas prices are being dragged lower by falling crude oil prices, which suffered steep losses Tuesday, on worries of a global economic slowdown,” AAA’s Mark Jenkins said.

Jenkins noted that the fuel market is still volatile and oil prices have rebounded numerous times in the recent past.

But keep your fingers crossed.

“If these futures price drops hold, drivers could see Florida gas prices drift back below $4.10 per gallon.”
