Brandy Roberson took to social media Friday, sharing that her 18-year-old daughter was confronted by a man she did not know in the southern Texas café, KSAT reported.

The barista, who has not been identified publicly, noticed the encounter and handed the girl “an extra hot chocolate someone forgot to pick up,” according to Roberson.

The freebie turned out to be a lifeline, though, when the girl noticed the barista’s hastily scribbled note penned on the side of the cup, KSAT reported.

“Are you okay? Do you want us to intervene? If you do, take the lid off the cup.”

According to Roberson, her daughter felt safe and did not remove the lid, but the staff continued to watch over her daughter throughout the rest of her visit, KPRC-TV reported.

“How grateful I am for people who look out for other people,” Roberson wrote on Facebook, the TV station reported.
