A microchip led Sid back to his owner Sharif Yelton, who moved to Austin, Texas, from Highland Springs, Colorado, four years ago for school, the Pikes Peak Courier reported.

Sid, a 7-year-old cat, had run off during the move. Yelton searched for Sid for a year and a half, KRIV reported.

“We all have those things in our life that we still keep in our hearts, then maybe one day a miracle like this can happen,” Yelton said.

Earlier in April, the Teller County Regional Animal Shelter set a trap to catch a different cat that had been seen roaming near the facility when they caught Sid. He had become the informal pet for Divide Collision, a nearby business, where he was known as Bob.

“We can tell if a cat is feral; feral cats won’t make eye contact and pretend to be invisible,” Angie Davis, director of the animal shelter, told the Courier. “His body was in good condition with a good weight.”

They discovered Sid had a microchip and up to date contact information, so the shelter was able to reunite him with Yelton on Sunday.

“Sid and his human are so happy to be reunited,” the shelter said on social media. “We love stories with happy endings.”
