Coronavirus: Iowa couple helps pay utility bills for 11 struggling families

WAUKEE, Iowa — An Iowa couple made paying the bills a little bit easier for 11 families struggling during the coronavirus outbreak.

Waukee Mayor Courtney Clarke told KCCI that the couple, who wished to remain anonymous, visited City Hall last week and gave the clerk $1,100.

Clarke told the television station the couple said they wanted the money used to help families who were having difficulty or were behind on their utility payments.

"Our utility billing department actually called these families and was able to share the news,” Clarke told KCCI. “They were very moved, and some cried with gratitude. Clearly there have been hard times due to this and also before, but they were feeling very blessed by this donation.”
