The mask mandate for transportation is being extended due to the omicron COVID-19 variant.
President Joe Biden is expected to make the announcement Thursday.
The mask mandate that applies to airports, airplanes, buses, trains and boats was set to expire on Jan. 18, CNN reported.
That deadline is now being moved two months later, to March 18, Reuters first reported.
In addition to extending the transportation mask mandate, the government is also expected to announce stricter testing rules for international travelers, according to Reuters.
