Flight attendants worried about disruptions demand pro-Trump rioters barred from flights

Flight attendants say they are worried about potential onboard disruptions and are now asking for people who took part in the riot at the U.S. Capitol to be barred from flights.

The request was filed after reports of two midflight issues, one of which targeted Republican Sen. Mitt Romney on a Delta Air Lines flight from Utah.

Flight attendants said passengers started chanting “traitor” in reference to Romney. Delta said the crew “quickly engaged and resolved the issue.”

On an American Airlines flight to the D.C. area, there were arguments between passengers during which flight attendants had to bring up cabin lights and order people to return to their seats, CNBC reported.

“The mob mentality behavior that took place on several flights to the D.C. area yesterday was unacceptable and threatened the safety and security of every single person on board,” Sara Nelson, president of the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA, said according to CNBC.

Speaking about the events at the Capitol, Nelson said, “Their violent and seditious actions at the Capitol today create further concern about their departure from the D.C. area. Acts against our democracy, our government and the freedom we claim as Americans must disqualify these individuals from the freedom of flight,” Fox News reported.

United Airlines and American Airlines are adding staff at airports that serve the Washington area and are working with law enforcement to make sure travel remains safe for passengers and crew members, Reuters reported.

American Airlines has stopped serving alcohol on flights to and from the capital region as a precaution, Reuters reported.
