PORTAGE, Ind. — An Indiana man is behind bars after police said he crashed a vehicle into a Portage business and later led officers on a chase that ended at his own home.
According to The Times of Northwest Indiana, the incident began early Monday at the Tobacco Kings Vape store on Willowcreek Road. Portage police said they received a report that a driver had crashed into the business about 6 a.m. and fled from the scene.
Police later saw the vehicle believed to be involved in the incident and tried to stop the driver, Portage resident Robert Eaton, at Willowdale Road and Central Avenue, the Times reported. Eaton, 23, again fled in the vehicle, sparking a police chase, authorities said.
Police pursued Eaton to his Brown Street home, where he exited the vehicle and ran, authorities told the Times. Police said Eaton broke away from an officer’s grasp and went into the home, yelling for his father. Police said they pushed the suspect outside and arrested him while he kept shouting, “Dad!”
Eaton was arrested on multiple charges, including resisting officers, reckless driving, fleeing an accident scene and criminal mischief, Porter Superior Court records show. He remains in the Porter County Jail, according to the Porter County Sheriff’s Office website.
