Miss America Camille Schrier to serve two years wearing crown because of coronavirus pandemic

The current Miss America will have a longer reign than normal.

Camille Schrier will wear the crown for two years because the coronavirus has forced the cancellation of the 2020 Miss America Pageant.

Schrier, who has two Bachelor of Science degrees in Biochemistry and Systems Biology, is pursuing a Doctor of Pharmacy at Virginia Commonwealth University.

She was crowned in December 2019.

Pageant officials have decided to forgo a competition this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Instead, Miss America will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the competition in 2021.

Schrier spoke to People magazine about the postponement saying, “I realized now that I’m probably going to be a “Jeopardy” question. It’s definitely incredible. As someone who is a nontraditional competitor in the Miss America organization ... it’s kind of on-brand for me to do it this way.”

Schrier’s platform is to promote drug safety and abuse prevention while promoting STEM education.
