North Carolina man finds grenade in front yard

RALIEGH, N.C. — A grenade found by a North Carolina man doing yardwork, prompting the evacuation of four nearby homes, was determined to be a dud.

Raleigh police said the bomb squad responded around 11:30 a.m. after a resident found the grenade in his front yard, WNCN reported.

Four homes were evacuated as investigators determined the grenade was real but did not contain any explosive material, WRAL reported.

It is unclear where the grenade came from, how long it had been there or who might have put it there.
