EAST CHICAGO, Ind. — A teacher in Indiana was arrested for allegedly constructing a “kill list” made up of students and staff, officials say.
According to WGN-TV, on Wednesday around 5 p.m., East Chicago Police Department officers were called out to St. Stanislaus School. Officers spoke with the assistant principal and principal about a report that a fifth-grade student made to their counselor about a teacher who allegedly made comments about “killing herself, students and staff.”
In a news release from ECPD, the teacher also allegedly told the student that she had a list and that the student was on the bottom of it.
According to ECPD, the teacher was brought to the principal’s office. The teacher allegedly admitted that she did make the statements to the student and also confirmed that she had a “kill list,” said ECPD.
The teacher did not provide the principal or ECPD with the list. The principal told the teacher to leave the campus and not to return due to the pending investigation, according to ECPD.
According to CBS News, police were notified about four hours after the teacher was allowed to leave.
On Thursday, the criminal investigation division of ECPD got an emergency detention order for the teacher from the Lake County Prosecutor’s office, according to ECPD.
ECPD identified the teacher as Angelica Carrasquillo-Torres, 25. She was taken into custody at her house in Griffith, Indiana.
The investigation is ongoing. No further information has been released.
