As part of its 2020 menu revamp, Taco Bell is removing a few more items including its popular Mexican pizza, while adding some as well.
In July, the restaurant removed 12 items from its menu including the grilled steak soft taco, 7-layer burrito, nachos supreme, beefy Fritos burrito and spicy potato soft taco. The latest changes are effective Nov. 5.
For the environmentally conscious, removing the Mexican pizza from the menu means cutting a potential 7 million pounds of paperboard packaging from the waste stream, the restaurant said.
“We know some fans may be sad to see this one go, we are too,” officials said in a release. “One silver lining of saying goodbye to the Mexican Pizza that might help you rest easy is that removing it from our menus helps us work towards our commitment to leave a lighter footprint on our planet.”
The restaurant is also replacing pico de gallo with fresh diced tomatoes and is removing shredded chicken which is used in the shredded chicken soft taco shredded chicken burrito and shredded chicken quesadilla melt. New items include a chicken chipotle melt and dragonfruit freeze. Green sauce will return to some regional locations.
“While we know fans may be understandably sad to see some of their favorites go, this evolution of our menu truly paves the way for fresh new ideas,” Mike Grams, Taco Bell President, said in a statement. “The creativity and innovation in our kitchen hasn’t slowed down at all, and we look forward to rolling out new fan favorites.”
